Steam Workshop Content Now Requires Moderator Approval

Steam Workshop

A new change in policy requires Steam Workshop submissions to receive a moderator’s approval before going live. However, this was not formally announced. Mod makers of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive subreddit had to find this themselves through some quick digging.

Firstly, a modder turned in a test submission to see what would happen. In checking its status, he met a notice claiming the submission was “awaiting approval” from a moderator before it could become visible to other players.

Before the rule change, rules were much more lenient. Users only needed to link the submission to a valid Steam account address.

An updated Steam Support Page explains that item approval is now the second of two steps for getting listed.

For certain Workshops that have been the target of scams leading to hijacked accounts, newly submitted and updated items will be placed into a moderation queue. The approval process should be completed in less than a day, with most items getting processed in less than an hour.

The new Steam Workshop regulations have seen modders all around rejoicing. Long have they been asking for extra mod intervention in the matter. With a chaotic Workshop rife with spam and scams, genuine modders lost much of their deserved integrity and attention. Issues with downvoting bots and viruses have been prevalent for years. True modders are getting the last laugh now.
