Square Enix Considering Own Subscription Service

Square Enix considers subscription service

Square Enix is yet another major company showing interest in the vast world of subscription services. During E3, the developer and publisher of games such as the Final Fantasy series, spoke with GamesIndustry. During their discussion, the developer made it clear that they weren’t positive if they would. This was only an idea and they’d need significantly more preparation and investment.

But, at the same time that would require significant preparations and investment. We’d also have to consider whether or not it will work well solely including our own catalogue titles. At present, as I say, we are offering our games on multiple subscription services, including Microsoft’s. But eventually I do think that we need to get to the point where we have enough insight that we can build our own service.

Square Enix is currently working with other services, so thinking about tacking on yet another service on top of Xbox Game Pass. This isn’t even mentioning Final Fantasy VII Remake being put onto Google’s upcoming Stadia.

A subscription service by Square Enix would by far not be too unique. A number of developers and publishers are at least kicking around a streaming service. But, if they were to launch it, a fair share of fans would flock to it.
